Dick & Ockie's answer is one of my least liked showtunes.
I figured out the answer, but it won't let me actually fill in the blanks.

That DID enter my mind, but I just wanted to make sure that my computer wasn't acting up. Again.
All I could think of was SLAMBURGER but it’s too long to fit.
UMBRELLA fits the letter count and the definition, sorta, and part of the wordplay.
But is that the answer, Dan? If so, I don’t get it. And after I wrote SLAMBURGER, I realized it’s called a Smashburger, so that doesn’t work either. Please someone put me out of my misery. Dan? Henry?

That's likely because you didn't cheat. Go back and use Internet aids like wordplays.com/crossword-solver, anagram-solver.net and the-crossword-solver.com, and you'll probably get through them okay. Some of them may take you two and a half weeks, but i'm sure you can find the time, lol.
